... choosing the right engineer for your music ...
why master?
Why master?
There has never been an album worth mentioning that was not properly mastered by a professional engineer. Most artists understand the music making process except for the final and most crucial step. Mastering isn’t just about making your song as loud as possible. It’s about balancing your track to translate better and provide a great listening experience to your audience.
Every musical project can benefit from an outside opinion and a mastering engineer is a great last line of defence. After listening to the same mix for hours on end your ears become biased and you won’t notice certain issues.
Thankfully the mastering engineer can catch these problems in your mix and fix them before anyone else hears.
do you offer
a free
mastering sample?
Do you offer a free mastering sample?
I discourage demo mastering because my schedule is so busy that it is very hard for me to fit time in for a demo master.
A "short sample" of a song sometimes takes up to 1 hour to master. Please understand that I put serious effort into mastering, which means finding the optimum sound for you takes time and that ultimately cuts into the time that I can spend making mixes and masters of albums for my clients. So I do not ordinarily do a free demo. Any mastering engineer who offers a so-called free test must either have lots of time on his hands, or is cutting corners or fooling himself and you.
Nevertheless, I encourage you to hire me for just one song. If you like my master and I'm sure you will, I will apply the cost of the first master towards the total cost of mastering your album.
what do
you get?
What do you get?
You will receive your mastered songs in three different file formats:
- 24 bit wav
- 44.1kHz &16bit wav
- mp3
Whenever you want to upload your song somewhere online
(for instance to Soundcloud, Spotify or Youtube) always upload the highest possible format. If you upload a lossy format such as Mp3 from the start,
then the streaming service will be re-encoding from one lossy format to another (this is called "transcoding" and it degrades the quality even further).
That's why you will receive your mastered song in three different formats:
- 24 bit file for Soundcloud, Youtube etc.,
- dithered 16 Bit for CD's
- and mp3
This service comes free of charge
at Dust Mastering.
